What the.... what? Sixpoint is known by sight to me with their weird little energy drink-style cans. Now, they are going with the traditional cans? What's next? Bottles?!?! Actually, what happened to bottles? Seems like nearly no one uses bottles anymore. That's a shame, as I was gifted a couple of state-shaped beer bottlecap holders, and I have had them both for years without being filled. I guess microbreweries (even with their higher prices) have decided that is where they can skimp.
Once again, it says "hazy" on the label, and they know what hazy is. Mind you, this is not even close to the haziest beer I've ever had. The white bubbles create a picture of Antarctica in the middle of the beer with the expected ring on the sides. The aroma is a slap of fruits (mostly citrus) with the DIPA malt backing that brings a little smile to my face.First sip is exactly what I was looking for. The thick malt is strong, but the citrus and welcomed tropical hops are doing a dance of flavor that a certain strange chef would call "Flavortown™." Bitterness is generally kept at bay, but it's possible the malt is interfering with what could otherwise be a very nice mix of hops. I was thinking that this might be good as an IPA, but it's possible that's what Puff is, and that needed balanced out.
Tip-in is thick fruit slurry of grapefruit, starfruit, and mango with very little carbonation going on at all. The middle is a sedate move into the exact same tastes smoothly and quietly transitioning down the gullet. The finish brings out a bitterness, but it's mostly controlled while fruits are left to handle the trail off.
Bottom Line: Honestly, this is pretty great.
