I don't know what this is. I mean, I know it's a shot, and that means it's a liquor, but I don't really know what it is intending to be as a recreational beverage. Will it be something like the root beer moonshine that I had a while back? Will this be more in line with a hard soda? Maybe this is intended to be mixed with soda to produce a root beer shooter or something like certain liqueurs do.
It looks like your average brown liquor. It's darker than your average whiskey or the like, but it's pretty unremarkable looking beyond that. The aroma is root beer over quite heavy alcohol. If you told me this was root beer flavored moonshine, I would agree with you. In fact, I'm going to tell you that this is moonshine that has been flavored to be root beer. The heaviness is a far cry from the root beer shooters of old.First sip is exactly what I thought it was. This is a heavy alcohol that has a very vanilla root beer flavor, but the alcohol is the same unrefined stuff that is normally unleashed upon my taste buds with moonshine. In short, this isn't tame enough to be a gentle sipping alcohol, but it isn't smooth enough to be a cigar-and-dark-room kind of beverage. That leaves it in the liminal space where I guess it needs to be a mixer.
You know, not many good, high-end liquors strive to be mixed with something in order to be enjoyed. This just isn't very good on its own, and mixing it with something else is just to cover the flavor of this that doesn't balance well enough. I think they need to rework the formula.
Bottom Line: Not very good.
