Tennessee has a South Pittsburg. Pennsylvania has a California. So, I briefly assumed that "Nashville, SC" stood for Nashville South Carolina. The fact that it says Nashville Tennessee in the address in tiny letters means I had a conundrum. So, I had to look up "Nashville, SC" only to find that is in reference to a soccer club. Apparently, we have a soccer club. Additionally, that soccer club has picked this lager to be their official beer. I don't know how someone comes to such a decision, I don't know what criteria are involved, and I don't know who makes that decision. More importantly, I don't know who decides that putting SC on a logo would not make people assume that whatever it is is from South Carolina. Let's hope that is the end of the missteps for this beer.
The very pale yellow beer is unusually pale. The head requires quite a bit of coaxing to come out, and it disappears pretty darn quickly. Is this a light lager? The color is absolutely the hallmark of a light beer. But it doesn't say it's a light beer anywhere on it. The aroma is pretty generic lager with a sweet corn malt and just a hint of skunk. Again, I don't know what's the soccer club was looking for, but I hope it wasn't the presentation. This doesn't look very appetizing.First sip is a strange sensation of rising sweetness. The malt seems to not hit very much at first and lets the slight skunk out of the bag, but the skunk goes way very quickly. Afterward, the malt seems to grow rather than dissipate for the trail off. It's unusual to have a flavor that seems to hit harder after the beer is gone. I'm not sure what that really means for the beer itself. Because of the strangeness of the sip, I took a second sip. This one was quite different from the first, but not in a good way. It leads with skunk, rises with sweetness, and ends with skunk. This is a very strange beer.
Tip-in is sweet bread and corn with carbonation fizzing moderately all around. Sweetness continues through the middle of the beer, but it is overshadowed by an intruding carbonation and an overall effect of wateriness. The finish is a sting lifting from the tongue leaving sweetness in its wake with only the slightest hint of skunk to it.
Bottom Line: Drunk quickly, it's passable.
