Trust me, I drank and wrote this up last year. I am not drinking Oktoberfests in January. Mind you, I'm not sure good beer should be relegated to a particular time of year, but I get that tradition is tradition, and I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Plus, these kinds of beers, for some reason I have yet to research, have a relatively short shelf life, so I will drink them fresh.
The clear copper beer produces a modicum of head that fizzles to a single peninsula of small bubbles coming from the incomplete circle of bubbles around the sides of the glass. The aroma is caramel, gentle spices, and biscuit. Presentation is pretty good, then.First sip is quite nice and smooth. I don't know how many Oktoberfests I have described as smooth, but I'm guessing it's not too many. The caramel malt is knee-deep in the biscuit, and the spices are just barely alighting atop the whole thing. It's solid, smooth, and delish.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation with spices and it's on top of biscuits. The middle grows with carbonation spreading all around the mouth as the caramel smears itself across the tongue and hops don't peek out much. The finish is light and nice while sweetness is mixing with an encroaching dryness that holds for biscuits in the trail off.
Bottom Line: Very, very nice.
