Will honey improve things? I'm not generally a whiskey guy, but I know several whiskey people, and I wanted to give it a try because ... there has to be something to it, doesn't there? Well, these tiny little bottles seemed like they would be the best way to test the waters with what seems like the most popular whiskey out there, and it happens to be from Tennessee (I have gone past the distillery many times) so this pack was what I grabbed.
The whiskey is... whiskey colored. It has no head, as whiskey doesn't have head. If anything, this is a little lighter than the other whiskeys I've had lately, but I wouldn't fault someone for disagreeing. The aroma is very much like a whiskey, and the honey is adding a vague something that doesn't really even compete with the whiskey. I'm not even sure why they added it at this point.First sip is whiskey. It may be slightly sweeter than whiskey that only uses corn (as straight Jack's is known for). I can say that there is a honey taste left on the lips after the drink is done, but I didn't taste any honey until I had already sipped. This is like one of those moonshines that has a flavor that they put on the label, but the flavor can't overcome the moonshine.
Subsequent sips are basically the same. I can imagine that I'm tasting honey in the middle of the sip, but I think I'm just trying to fool myself. Instead, this is a passible whiskey with something added that changes the trail off of the beverage, but it doesn't really do enough to make it seem different than the regular whiskey.
Bottom Line: Nothing to see here.
