Monday Night's bar graph at the bottom of the page is heavily weighted toward the top of the scale. They have only one bad beer and one not great beer. On the other side, they got two into the excellent category, and this is demonstrative of a brewer who is trying new things and taking big swings - most of them successful. This is exactly what I like in a brewery.
There is a very slight haze to the otherwise straw-colored beer that spouts a complicated and full head that is a giant mixture of big, medium, and tiny bubbles. The head leaves spitballs of lacing in its wake, and the resulting cover does not completely reach the entire way around the glass, but is a patchy webwork of bubbles in the middle and on the sides. The aroma is tropical and citrus fruits with a more foreboding presence of pine resin lingering overhead.Tangerine and grapefruit leap out from the beverage as the resin seems to drag along a relatively heavy oat malt. The malt is managing to avoid imparting too much sweetness, but the bitterness is cut down considerably. The presence of the pine really alters the flavor profile of this beer. I'm not sure that it is well-placed, however. I think this beer might have been better as something much fruitier, and the pine seems to be detracting from the overall joyousness that the beer feels like it wants to have.
Tip-in is tangerine and grapefruit with light carbonation tingle and a sweetness from the malt leaving a slight haze of pine. The middle raises a ruckus with carbonation suddenly becoming loud just as the pine resin sinks its teeth in and the oat malt stomps down bitterness with a mild sweetness. The finish is where the resin doesn't seem to want to let go after the fruits have already vanished, so the resulting trail off is a bit muddled.
Bottom Line: A solid effort.
