I didn't even realize that I had a second beer in the fridge from Aslin. I would not have bothered to grab another beer after the last one I had, but that might be too judgmental on my part. The coincidental similarities between this brewery and Omnipollo have unfairly tainted my view of the entire line of beers, and I need to at least give them a second go, right?
The opaque beer is a nice, complex shade of orange with a significant enough head that boils down to a patchy cap on top with a particularly uneven ring around the sides. The aroma is tropical fruits with a creaminess that I would normally associate with lactose sugars. It smells pretty good, and my fears about this beer are abating as I type.First sip is... uninspired. The tropical fruits are there, mingled with citrus fruits, but the whole thing is just kind of bland overall. I'm not sure if there are lactose sugars included in this or not, but whatever is adding the sweet nothing is losing the battle with bitterness, and the fruits are just kind of there, doing nothing special.
Tip-in is very light carbonation tingle with grapefruit and starfruit skins mixed about. The middle brings a hefty solidity that I did not sense in the sip; the fruit peels are heaped upon each other with juice of other nebulous citrus and tropical fruits joining in. The finish is a snap of dry before a bitter mist takes over for the trail-off.
Bottom Line: Better gulped, but not fantastic.
