This has the feel of a beer that should be drunk in the summer, but I got it now, so I'm drinking it now. Maybe I'm confusing it with that kind of summer ale because of the color scheme of the can or the quite approachable 4.0% ABV. I don't really track the ABV for a particular brewery, but this has to be one of the lowest alcohol beers I've had from Lagunitas.
The pale yellow beer is... quite pale. It doesn't exactly overwhelm with head, either. It's quite uninspiring as far as IPAs go, but this is a different song in the same style of those that came before it. The aroma is faint, but it is hop-forward and quite effervescent. It's so bubbly, in fact, that I look again. Right now, there are a lot more bubbles coming up from the depths than is usual. I hope that doesn't overwhelm any taste in the beer.First sip is isn't terrible, but it's not great. I am reminded - again - of the similarity between low-cal beers and the 0% ABV beers. They both try to hit hops hard to overwhelm the taste buds instead of having a solid taste. So, hops with no alcohol or malt to balance. I have never had hops-infused carbonated water before, but that's what this tastes like.
Tip-in is light carbonation burn that seems like it's rising with pine and flowers already scraping at the tongue. The middle rolls with more scraping and fury and little else, but it's better than the sip. The finish is more scraping and bad.
Bottom Line: If I was just in from mowing the lawn, I would like the wateriness.
