I don't know what possessed me to buy another one of these liquor in a can things at the checkout line while I was picking up beer, but I did. I figured this one would be better than the previous ones, as the other ones were mixed drinks, and this is straight whiskey. Now, I say it is straight whiskey, but it is a flavored whiskey. I have heard good things about these kinds of flavored whiskeys over the internets for the past few months, and I didn't have any particular desire to taste them. However, the impulse buy being what it was, I am now going to be reviewing this thing.
This says it has two servings per can, so what you see in this class is two fingers of whiskey. Suggested serving sizes in the US seem more a matter of opinion then any kind of strict guideline, so I'm just gonna go with what I've got. As soon as I opened the can, I could smell the peanut butter. It is a nice, rich, crunchy peanut butter scent that overwhelms any kind of hard liquor that I would normally sense behind a similarly flavored moonshine. I'm never sure if I should put these on the rocks, refrigerate them, or drink them at room temperature. In this case, I refrigerated this a little bit. I hope I don't offend anyone with that.First sip is, indeed, peanut butter. What's interesting is how smooth it is. If this were a peanut butter flavored moonshine, I would still get the alcohol acetate flavor that was latching on or not completely obscured by the peanut butter flavoring. In this case, I get the alcohol warmth without the bite. Maybe this is what whiskey drinkers mean whenever they talk about a smooth whiskey. I don't know how smooth screwball whiskey is supposed to be in the first place, and I have no experience in that regard. Subsequent sips reveal a slight whiskey flavor that is most pronounced at the beginning of the sip, but it is quickly overtaken by the very heavy peanut butter. If anything, the peanut butter is a bit too sweet, and the result is that it is a bit saccharine. I think I would prefer a peanut butter flavored cream. This feels like it's trying a bit too hard.
Bottom Line: Not bad, depending on what you're looking for.
