Revolution had the whole "Hero" lineup that I went through a while back. Honestly, I can't remember a whole lot more of Revolution's beers. I guess that's why I have a blog - so I can remember if I liked a brewery. Based on the bar chart at the bottom of the page, it looks like I generally do. No stinkers, at least. Well, let's go a little crazy with these guys.
The gold beer is turning brass at its center, and the head is pretty standard. That said, it sticks around a lot longer than normal, and it's a very nice and relatively even layer that covers the entire beer. Lacing will be pretty minimal, but there will be some left on the walls of the glass, so I'll take what I can get. The aroma is dusty citrus, but the dust might be coming from the malt or a pine... I'm not particularly discerning when it comes to aromas.First sip is nothing like the aroma. It's spices, light yeast that is kind of Belgian, but it doesn't seem like it is imported directly from Belgium. Flowers join the spices, and I can't say they are doing a whole lot of good. The combination is kind of all over the place. I love a good Belgian ale, but this isn't that. It's something else.
Tip-in is very light carbonation tingle with yeast forward and dusty spices in its wake - where are the citrus notes I was told to expect? The middle rises up with more carbonation as the spices get slightly lighter, but the malt seems like it's not enough to stand up to anything. The finish is a mess with yeast, spices, citrus, and dust doing bad things to each other.
Bottom Line: Not great.
