I have no expectation that this drink is going to be good. Ordinarily, I wouldn't bother doing a review of a beverage that I fully thought stood no chance going in. Yes, there were a few that I was very apprehensive about, and there were those that I made the mistake of buying that were clearly labeled as coffee or something similar that would result in me not liking the beverage. But, this came as part of a pack, and I see no reason why I shouldn't document what seems like an inevitable failure. The previous two beverages from this pack were very not good.
I had a fondness for cherry sodas and I was a child. I remember playing Little League baseball and getting a cherry soda from the stand that they had just next to the park. I do not recall if I've ever had the cherry version of Mountain Dew, but I anticipate I wouldn't have hated it. This version is not really red. It's more a raspberry shade that makes me question why they didn't just add the correct amount of food coloring. Once again, there's no head, and there are scant points of nucleation that just barely let you know that this is carbonated at all. The aroma is of cherry NyQuil.First sip is watered-down NyQuil. Well, watered-down NyQuil with a bad sweetener. NyQuil traditionally leaves a pretty bad taste in the mouth after it goes down, but this pushes it to another level. It's the same sweetener as the other two Mountain Dews, they probably used a very similar recipe, and so it sucks as bad as the other two beverages. I'm not to bother swigging this, as it's only going to get worse. And I remember how bad the hard Mountain Dew got whenever it started to get a little warmth into it. I don't know why they even tried this nonsense. Why are they trying a cash grab that it's just going to dilute the brand. Or is the brand worth nothing?
Bottom Line: I unfortunately have one more style in this pack.
