Forgive me, but being raised by sound sounds like a terrible upbringing. How would you learn basic skills? Is this why Memphis is derided as the most crime-ridden city in Tennessee? What do we have to do to our welfare system to fix these things? This is just... so upsetting.
The larger-than-normal head pops out almost immediately upon the beginning of the pour, and it takes a couple pauses to get the beer into the glass. The lacing is surprisingly minimal for such a head-strong beer, but the murky, clump-strewn yellow-orange beer doesn't really seem to care what I think about it. The aroma of biting citrus leads me to believe that a usually placid session is about to get bitter on me. We shall see.First sip expresses very little of the bite I was expecting until the trail-off hits. Even there, it is mostly muted. The citrus flavor is strong, but it comes with a background of near funk that I can't quite place - maybe best to describe it as citrus seeds and core rather than meat or rind. It's not an overtly nasty beer, but it isn't really raising the bar much with a sip.
Tip-in is sweet orange and grapefruit with mild carbonation tingle. The middle shoves pine and carbonation to the roof of the mouth with an unnecessary amount of grating while the citrus meat flows underneath, trying to keep its head down. The finish is a lot more bitterness than the sip had before funk and bitterness hold hands for the trail-off.
Bottom Line: Just a bit too far off.
