It turns out, to my surprise, Elysian has put out quite a few beers. Genuinely, the only one I remember is Space Dust. I think I may remember it because it was really good. The thing is, I completely forgot that it wasn't even the best of the beers from these guys. The best was their Dayglow IPA, but that was in 2015, and a lot of beer has passed my lips since then. This is why I try to keep a record of my beers. I have a terrible memory.
Once again, they went out of their way to put hazy on the label, but it is not particularly hazy. The golden beer has a very slight haze that I probably wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't brought it up. The head doesn't exactly burst forth from the beer, but a relatively hard pour produces an average head. The aroma is both citrus and tropical fruits mixed into a very sweet malt that smells somewhat crackery.A sip finds that I was completely wrong about the sweetness. Instead, a bitterness grips the entire beverage, but it has that distinctive DIPA full-bodied solidity that I have really come to like from the style. The fruits are here in abundance, but the weight of the malt seems to be jamming them together a bit to make it hard to discern one from the next - is there honeydew? Yeah, probably. Is there peach? Seems likely. The sip isn't bad, but it just needs to work something out.
Tip-in is cracker malt with a glaze of peach, mango, and melon. Carbonation starts to scrape at the top of the mouth when the middle surges with that solid malt that starts to show some grains. The finish is where the bitterness reasserts itself and fruit rinds join it for the trail off.
Bottom Line: It seems like even on an off day they can produce a decent beer.
