I don't know how many of my over 1900 reviews are lagers in all of their derivations, but I know they pale in comparison to the number of IPAs (Get it? PALE?!?). I'm not sure why. There are certainly excellent lagers out there, and lagers are the most common type of beer you'll find on the average tap here in the USA, but I tend to shy away from them in favor of their more bitter cousins.
The yellow beer has a slight haze and not much of a head. The incomplete dusting of very white bubbles is replenished from bubbles from deep inside the beer at a rate that would be sufficient to keep a thick head, were this beer capable of a thick head. The aroma is a spray of lemons on top of fresh bread. There are some flowers tucked in there, too.First sip is light bread and biscuits with a lemon spritz and a pervasive sweetness. It's a simple flavor, and it is a very good flavor. I'm not sure I even remember what amazing insights I normally put in this paragraph after the sip, but I just want to drink this beer.
Tip-in is bread and lemons and the sweetness that cuts through it like a knife. The middle raises the concern of slight bitterness and bordering tartness, but the bread morphs into a smooth biscuit underneath it, and I'm good. A corn sweetness grabs the mouth at the finish, and the bread and lemons come back for an encore.
Bottom Line: A very good lager.
