MadTree has given me one stinker and two good beers. Good? I mean Great. Both of the winners managed a 3.5 in my rating scale, and that is a solid recommendation. Outliers are going to outlie, so I wouldn't pay much mind to the 0.75 pale ale that just couldn't keep up with its own carbonation. Based on the previous experiences, I am anticipating a winner.
First sip is good, but the bitter downturn on the back end of the citrus front is musty, thick, and floral. It's not that it's particularly bad, but it detracts from the beginning of the beer. It's not uncommon for a sip to not have enough time for a beer's proper taste to stretch out, and it really feels like that's the problem here. Like I said, it's still good, but it seems unbalanced.
Tip-in is light bitterness with grapefruit and orange over an almost absent carbonation. The center of the beer is thick and smooth with fruit meat mingling with a somewhat grainy malt, and it gives the impression of a filling solidity without overwhelming with too many flavors. The finish is the musty, bitter downturn with flowers popping up over the horizon.
Bottom Line: It would never be my go to beer, but it's not bad.
