Look. I know. I know this is going to be an odd one. A friend of mine recently told me about a squid ink beer that he knew about, so, with that in mind, a peach & boysenberry cobbler beer isn't really THAT far outside the lines, is it? I mean, the Ben & Jerry's cookie beer was really, really good. Maybe this will be like that one.
First sip is not as bad as I feared, but it's not stellar. It is sour and tart, but there is a berry sweetness that forces the sourness down. They say there is peach in this, and I can taste just the slightest amount around the edges, but it's pretty well dominated by those berries. I think the malt might be the actual origin of the sweetness that is countering the sour, but it doesn't engender much of a taste.
Tip-in is sour and tart with the berries and their stems leading the charge. The middle sloshes forth with carbonation frizzle having a lot of fun with the berry stems as the peach soothes the sour a bit and the crusty malt finally peeks out. The finish is sweet, tart, bitter, and sour with the berries and their stems leaving a sour-bitter trail off.
Bottom Line: More sour than I like and less beer than I expected.
