I have many friends in the area around Nashville who can speak nothing but caustic words in divisive tones when Yazoo is brought up. I think they have a similar problem to what Sam Adams does. Sam Adams is known for one particular beer, and it's a good beer, but if you happen to not like that particular beer, you tend to just refer to not liking Sam Adams when you're referring to the Boston Lager. Like that, Yazoo is such a recognizable brand with such questionable marketing that people who have a single Yazoo beer and don't like it might cast aside all other Yazoo beers. So far, that would have been a mistake.
First sip is a little discordant. The fruits are all mashed up in the front of the beer with malt mashing them down quickly to let nothing but all watery finish remain in the mouth. I can only hope that this is not intended to be sipped. It unbalanced and uncalled for. There are some good flavors, but stuff just isn't meshing the way that it needs to.
Tip-in is tangerines and grapefruit with a tart malt turning the fruits to fruit peels. The middle maintains flavor as everything smooths out significantly. Yes, this beer was not intended to be sipped, and it will reward you if you gulp it. The finish is a wave of sweetness followed by significant tartness before a tart fruit peel trail off.
Bottom Line: Drink it correctly, and it's pretty okay.
