The orange beer is just a few shades off of the dark orange of the label. The head is commodious once it escapes the can, and it took two pours to get the picture that you see here. The beer leaves a odd sort of lacing that is very big bubbles in large clumps. Normally, I would expect a webwork of smaller bubbles, but I'm not going to say if this is good or bad. Different is sometimes very good. The aroma has mango and orange really smacking the nose around. It's kind of aggressive in a way that I would expect a sour or very tart beer to be. I can't smell much underneath that.
First sip is tropical and citrus with a modicum of pine and a bread malt. These all combine at the beginning of the sip to be pretty good, but then the snap of bitterness plunges very quickly. It doesn't last very long, and the mist of orange and tangerine zest gives me a much better feeling about the beer that I would if it simply ended in that bitter plunge. Could I sip this all night? Yes, I probably could. But guess what?
Tip-in is slightly tart with tangerine, grapefruit, and orange surrounded by a carbonation tingle. The middle interrupts into an absolutely fantastic mix of orange, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, bread, and even a bit of pine. The finish still has a bitter wave, but it's not as pronounced as it was in the sip. The trail off has a bit of pine added to the tangerine and orange zest.
Bottom Line: That fat orange cat can lay in my sunbeam anytime.
