First sip is shockingly smooth. It's almost crisp on its front end (but not quite) and has an engaging smoothness right through the center. I expected a beer with as many hops as this clearly has to be confrontational in its nature, but that's just not what they're bringing. Instead, this is a highly drinkable beer, as far as I can tell. Of course, a sip really can't tell you everything, can it? So, we swig.
Tip-in is mild carbonation tingle with oranges and tangerines mixing it up with grapefruits and nectarines while the grains assert themselves more than I expected. In the middle, the carbonation starts to become a little abrasive, but the fruits continue to flow smoothly underneath. The effect is that the beer seems to be both complex and simple at the same time. The finish is very dry, and it leaves a bitterness all around the mouth that did not reveal itself in the sip, but that's why we do this.
Bottom Line: It's still pretty good beer, even though it could probably use a bit more work.
