First sip is very smooth, but it has a little kick-up of bitterness right near the end. The juices that I smelled are in there, and they are having a blast, but the malt is keeping them appropriately in check while not causing a severe backlash of too-much-malt that can all too easily happen. This is full of taste, and it's calm and collected. It's a good sipping beer.
Tip-in is mild carbonation tingle with oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, and a solid grain backing. The middle flows into a bit of harshness at the roof of the mouth from a swelling carbonation, but the juices get joined by relaxed pears and apples to mellow the effect out. The finish is more abrupt than the sip indicated; a dryness creeps in while a bitterness waves at the front of the mouth before trailing off.
Bottom Line: A pretty good beer, but it is best sipped.
