As
promised, here is another in my series of
Monday Night beers. So far, they are two for two on recommendations for their beers. It's interesting to note that these are all (so far) derivations on
IPAs. I'm told that hops can obscure a multitude of sins, so many brewers start with it, but these guys aren't covering anything with the hops - they are embracing those flowers of bitterness.

The beer is very unevenly hazy. I'm not sure it comes across in the picture, but there is an odd, uneven whirlwind of dense microbials of wheat and yeast. The sticky head of off-white bubbles leaves lacing along the sides in a minimalist-Jackson-Pollock-esque way. The aroma is wheat and oranges. Odd. Didn't expect the wheat, but I suppose the whirlwind should have clued me in.
First sip is much smoother than I expected. It's sweet and tangy with a solid mix of oranges, tangerine, wheat, yeast, and... I'm going to go with pears. It's a simple mix, it's a smooth mix, and it's an enticing mix. I like it as a sipping beer, and that is more rare than I would care to admit. Most complex beers can't fit in a sip, but this sips nicely.
Tip-in is tart oranges, plums, and grapefruit. The middle spreads across the mouth with an easy mix of those same fruits, but they're joined by a sweetness and grains. The finish is a sharp downturn of grain-backed yeast followed by bitter tangerine.
Bottom Line: Better sipped than gulped, the beer has it's place in the world.
