"Wait - a little more heart than Crank 2 - High Voltage?"

Our hero starts as a homeless guy. He is a vet who has lost his way, so he has been living on the streets where some thugs routinely extort money. Extorting Statham, in pretty much any of his movies, is a terrible, terrible idea. Needless to say, bad things happen to the bad guys.
But what happens to our hero? Well, he stumbles into good fortune. Rather, he manages to find a place that is rented by a guy who won't be there for a good long while, and he partially assumes his identity. As a result, he has an income from stealing from ATMs, a nice apartment, and a nice car.
From here, he manages to get a job hurting people for a mob boss. He does it a lot, and he seemingly enjoys it. He also makes a good income from it. He then takes that income and tries to buy his soul back by giving food and money to the homeless by donating it to a local nun. He earns a reputation with them as "Crazy Joe" and they willingly accept everything he gives them.
The nun, played by Agata Buzek, is awash with inner conflict. She is trying to see signs telling her to accept some of the personal gifts he gives her. It's pretty clear that she wants is to indulge herself after having denied herself even the simple pleasures for so long.
While Statham has the limited range of happy or grimace, the Agata manages to carry the acting load even though she has the visage of a lizard crossed with a praying mantis. Her innocent wonder combines with her desire to experience things she never thought possible for her to create quite a bit of inner conflict that she deals with as best she can.
