I saw IPA on the front of this can. That's the excuse I'm going with. The fact that it was Ommegang made me think that it would be a good idea for me to pick this up. Little did I know that on the back of the can it declares itself a sour IPA. I don't particularly like sour beers, and I would not have gone out of my way to buy one. I don't want this to be a sour beer, and I don't care that one of the two participating breweries is, supposedly, an expert at the style. I wanted to purchase a delicious IPA, and I am pretty sure I'm already going to be let down. This isn't my fault at this point. You put it on the back of the can, and you put IPA on the front. This is tom-foolery at its worst.
The mostly orange beer is all but completely clear until the last little bit from the can goes in to make it slightly hazy. The very white bubbles form almost no head, but the ring around the sides and a few bubbles in the center manage to remain even after everything settles. The smell is that of a sour beer, and the yeast is really letting me know what I'm in for. I'm not going to be enjoying a delicious beverage, am I?
First sip is pretty dreadful. Yes, this is a sour. It's a refreshing sour, but it's a sour nonetheless. I don't like sour beers, and I don't like this one. I'm not going to bother doing a full swig, as this just isn't my thing and I have other beers waiting for me in my refrigerator.
