The label I used here is black lager, but this is a dark lager. In the time since I've been writing (technically, the first post was 2012, but it was just barely) I have never before run into something calling itself a dark lager, so I'll lump it in with black lagers, as I think black is pretty dark. Aside from that, trying to document the name of the brewery was more of an issue than I expected it to be. I normally tear off "brewing" or "brewery" from the names of the bands, as I feel it's kind of redundant. In this case, I had to parse a different language to come up with this, and I'm not 100% certain I did it right.
The clear and very deep ruby red of the beer is accentuated by the off-white bubbles that float on top. There aren't many of them, so I must enjoy whatever came to the party this time around. The aroma is dates, raisins, caramel, and nuts. Is there a bread crust tossed in there for good measure? Probably. There's a lot going on right now.
First sip is surprisingly dry. The toffee and nuts are in there, but the dryness seems to overcome the flavor profile quite a bit. I recently had a beer that claimed to be super dry or extra dry or something, and this one would have out-dried it to the point that you could fish an iPhone out of it and just straight-up call someone without needing the bag of rice (yes, I know that is a myth). It's a good flavor, once you expect dryness from the lager.
Tip-in is dark bread, caramel, nuts, and toffee. The middle becomes a smooth caramel, raisin and date-filled brew that feels dense with flavor. The finish turns down with bitterness mixing with dryness for an overall unpleasant finish to an otherwise great beer.
