Ciders are a bit of an anomaly. They are sweet, sometimes have apple flavors, and have enough alcohol to smooth out the night. Based on that formula, I should be hip deep in them, but it seems like they always try to do too much or maybe they don't try hard enough. Either way, I just don't find myself going back to them often.
Well, that doesn't look like cider, does it? It doesn't smell like it, either. The color is plum red, but I mentioned the smell because it emanates with a ferocity hitherto unknown. I think I could smell it in the next room. It is berry-heavy. The berries are blackberries, and they have a bit of a sting to them. Either way, they cover the apple almost entirely. I am reminded that many times, when you buy juice, you have apple juice as the base and then cranberry or whatever that the drink is sold as on the label.
First sip is blackberries and a little apple, but the tartness from the berries is the most pressing matter at this time. It's dry and tart and filled with blackberries that I didn't really want in the first place. I need to start inspecting labels better. This isn't the cider I have been looking for, and I don't really want any more of it.
