I guess I'm surprised this isn't bourbon, as it is from Kentucky, and it's whiskey, but I see that it is a blended whiskey. I do not recall ever having a blended whiskey before, and I know this kind of thing makes proper whiskey people cringe. I'm not really sure why, but I figure mixing two mediocre whiskeys that lack a particular something on their own might make them compliment each other to balance it out. Again, I really don't know, and I wouldn't engage in an argument about it.
Pours like whiskey. Smells like whiskey. I will comment that I have added ice this time around, as I have found that ice really makes me like the whiskey more. Maybe it's the increased cold or, more likely, the watering down of the alcohol, but something sits better with it when I add ice. I want to give this the best chance of a good review I can get, as I also happen to want to enjoy my beverage.
First sip is not a large one, but I feel the Kentucky hug go the whole way to my bowels. It's "only" 45% ABV, but it has a warmth that stronger beverages have failed to achieve. Indeed, the corn taste to it pretty clear, and the wood is evening the tone of the alcohol out quite a bit, so it's not quite as overwhelming as some of the more recent whiskey attempts I have tried. Overall, I would say the first sip isn't bad at all.
Continued sipping makes me think I have not given other whiskeys a good enough chance by not adding ice. Mind you, it's possible this whiskey just happens to be nice and smooth, and my adding ice hasn't done anything to improve that. But my previous attempts to try whiskey with and without ice has shown me that I should just lean into the ice.
