I continue my quest on these beers from Toppling Goliath that have a featured style. This time, this beer is dry hopped with Galaxy hops. I have had Galaxy hops in many other beers, and I don't think I knew what they were when I first had them. In fact, I am sure that I commented that I didn't know why these space-themed beers were suddenly becoming a thing. As a sci-fi fan from an early age, I didn't mind, but I just didn't understand. All that said, this is a long name for a beer. Toppling Goliath Brewing Company Galaxy Dry Hop Pseudo Sue Pale Ale. That just seems like a lot. There is some weird logo and brewing history with them, but I don't know what that's about, and they don't bother to tell me on the can. You know what? If you're not going to be explaining it, don't bring it up.
The beer looks delicious, as it is once again a beer that is doing an impression of an orange juice. It's a slightly dark orange juice, but that's what it looks like to me. There is a little bit of sediment at the bottom of the glass, but all that's perfectly acceptable. The aroma is quite faint, and it has citrus and tropical fruits. It smells pretty good, and I can tell that there could be bitterness, but I'm not actually smelling any. Instead, it comes across as relatively sweet. I can go for that.
First sip is not the fruit mixture that I thought it was going to be. The hops seem to have brought a dryness, and bitterness is definitely coming along for the ride. There are fruit skins and pits, and there are some flowers that have joined the party. Well, I say party, but I was expecting something juicy, and this isn't juicy. That fault lies with me and not in the beer. So, is the sip good on its own? I guess it's not bad. The problem with that first sip is that you don't really know what to expect, so not meeting your expectations is something that can definitely happen. But, I'm not going to sip again. My next step is to gulp, and maybe the beer will shine in a simple gulp.
Tip-in is bitterness flowing from fruit zest and a malt that is too weak to deal with it. The middle becomes a very nice, thick, and sweet mixture of fruit skins and fruit meat all blended together and solid. The finish is dry and bitter as the skins take over, and bitterness is really the thing that defines the trail off.
