Well, they gone and done it. They managed to get "hazy" into the name, so now I have to put it in the title. There have been lots of "hazy" beers that I didn't do that with, even when it was written on the can, but I can't ignore this one. I also can't ignore that this was another gift from my brother, and he needs to be encouraged to keep sending beer. Is this beer local to where he lives? No. Are any of them? Probably not. I didn't check yet.
The beer... isn't really all that hazy. I've had very hazy beers that didn't bother to make it part of the name, and this one is just kind of generally hazy. In fact, the bottom of the glass where it thins out hardly looks to have haze at all. The fluffy, patchy white head is kinda pretty, sitting on top of it, though. The aroma is quite citrus forward with pineapple mixing into grapefruit and orange to give a very strong scent.
First sip is nothing like I'd imagined and everything like I wanted. It is almost creamy with orange, tangerine, pineapple, and grapefruit all mixing sublimely and not bringing any of the kind of harsh bitterness and acidity that might normally be associated with them. I don't know where the creaminess is coming from, and I don't care! I want it, and I want to gulp! Guess what? I'm gulping.
Tip-in is light carbonation that feels like it's building. The flavors flowing along include that odd creaminess, pineapple, grapefruit, and tangerine. The middle becomes smooth, creamy, and fruity with all the same ones that I enjoyed in the sip, but now, they thin out to allow a refreshing sensation to come along for the ride. The finish is a wave of strong fruit before the carbonation and bitterness finally take over, but the fruit husks return for the trail off.
Bottom Line: A great beer.
