Finally, the official drink of Sing Sing Prison. I mean, I'm not sure what the licensing deal is with the prison, but I assume some prison malt beverage aficionados, having relocated to Canada after their extended stay as guests of the US government, settled on grape as the prefect distillation of what Sing Sing stands for. Maybe it is some kind of glimpse into the minds of the hardened criminals.
Purple is the appropriate color for this beverage. Is this the appropriate shade of purple? Well, so far these things have been the equivalent of spiked Kool-Aid. In that respect, yes, this is the wacky shade of purple that I would expect kids to love with their sugary flavored water. Unlike the other Johny Danger shots I've recently had, this one does a terrible job of hiding the alcohol in the aroma. There is that Jolly Rancher grape smell, but it is laced with alcohol. This is so odd that I actually thought this might be the same smell as a grape moonshine or something.
First sip is not nearly as alcohol forward as the smell made it seem like it would be. Also, and I don't think I mentioned it in the Sour Apple Shot, but this also claims to be sour and is, in fact, not. This isn't sour at all, and the other one wasn't, either. It's like they thought they needed to add some bit of intrigue beyond naming this after a prison, so they added a modifier that isn't in the drink itself.
Continued sips are just more of the same. This isn't a complex beverage, and none of them have been. This was the last one in my fridge, and I will likely not bother to get the other flavors I know are out there. This has a target audience that is (if nothing else) not me. If you like this kind of thing, I hope you enjoy this. For me, I'm going back to beer... or maybe a nice cream.
