Once again, I have a few different styles from a single brewery. I don't know how this Illinois brewery managed to get to my local store, but I'm not complaining. I'm happy to try new beers from new breweries. I'm looking for good beer, and different people have different ideas about what beer someone else might have a vision for. Today is a relatively uncommon (at least for me) American Pale Ale.
The pleasantly orange-gold beer has a slight haze to it, and the head is white with some sticking power. Will it be sticking on the sides? Signs point to yes, but they could be wrong, and I'll be halfway through the glass before I actually know. The aroma is light and fruity with citrus fruits. It doesn't smell strong, like an IPA, but it smells good, like an APA.
First sip reminds me why I like these APAs. It has a good amount of flavor, it's refreshing, it has a slight bitter to it, but the fruits are what are being featured, and they are framed well. There isn't a whole lot of confusion or fighting for attention. The fruits are presented on a simple plate for your to enjoy at your leisure.
Tip-in is grapefruit and a little pine with moderate carbonation. The middle becomes a very drinkable - properly quaffable - as the pine comes out a bit more, but the whole experience is great! The finish slightly too bitter, but it's ultimately just reflecting the flavors that preceded it.
