Now, fresh off... many Sierra Nevada beers, and they were generally very good, we are starting a group of Sweetwater IPAs. Actually, I just assumed that they are all IPAs. I don't think I looked that closely at them, but I own them now, and they will appear on these pages. I say that with the full knowledge that there were those Dad something seltzers that were so bad I only got through 2 of the 4 kind that were in the pack before I threw the rest of them out.
The bronze beer has a slightly tan head and copious suspended bits of what I can only assume is pineapple. I mean - there are a lot of them. This isn't the first beer I've had that has suspended white bits in the center of it, but this really has a lot. The aroma drips with fruits, and it's not surprising anyone that the pineapple is leading the charge.
First sip is toned down. I expect something with this much fruit to have a complex mixture that brings a ton of bitterness with it. If you want to fight the bitterness, you mix in a bunch of malt to cut it. This, however, is almost watery in the middle. I would say it has the taste of a pale ale instead of an IPA. It's definitely a fruit beer, but I don't know what I really think.
Tip-in is gentle honey malt with pine resin unexpectedly making an appearance and very little pineapple. The middle is a sweet bliss of pineapple, pine resin, honey, and even some molasses. The finish brings bitterness and the pine hangs on a bit.
