My second review of a growler from the recently opened Tailgate tap room near me (I published this and the next one out of order. Sorry). Yes, they refer to it as "Tailgate Brewery" but it's a taproom. Let's get real, people. You're not brewing any beer here. However, you have some lovely beverages to choose from. If only there were more short-run beer that... lasted longer and I could get in a can. But that's just my little niche.
The straw gold colored beer is almost a bit green, if I'm seeing it right. The head isn't much, but it might come down to the growler-filling process, so I'm going to basically ignore the fact that there isn't much, and there won't be any lacing. The aroma is grapefruit with a lingering sweetness that I am really digging. I want.
First sip is light grapefruit with a very nice bread malt. You average lager struggles to be unique and to leave an impression, but this one is leaving a good one. There isn't a lot to it, but it breaks with what I expected as a result of ... pretty much one beer from that part of the world, and it's not even from the same country. Yes, I mean Foster's.
Tip-in is very light carbonation and a crisp citrus led by grapefruit. The middle is a delight of smooth bread and grapefruit with a subtle sweetness. The finish is a whiff of bitterness intermingled in the rest of the flavors for a crisp snap and trail off.
