I don't normally drink tequila. I think I have expanded on my unfortunate past with tequila, and I really just don't like the taste. If you don't like the taste of something, why would you continue to search it out? That said, this Long Island iced tea is properly made with not just tequila but also rum, vodka, and gin. As a result, this is a respectable 13.0% ABV. I've never had any of the liquor from Cutwater before, but it appears that they used all their own stuff in the can. Maybe this will give me a positive impression of them, and I can look for their products as standalone reviews at a later date.
The beverage pours like a very dark iced tea. I would normally complain that it looks way too dark for a regular tea, but in this instance I expect they're trying to make up for the lack of color in most of the attendant liquors. There's carbonation in the beverage, and I don't know why that would be the case. I don't know for sure that most Long Island iced teas aren't carbonated, but I don't know why they would be. The aroma is heavy with alcohol, but it mixes with lemons and limes to make a nice, crisp scent that I won't mind trying out.
It said on the can that I should either put this on ice or enjoy it chilled straight from the can. First sip makes me believe that I have not chilled this enough, despite the fact that I just got it out of the fridge. It's been in that fridge for a week now, so it should have been cold enough. The alcohol is fervent, and the tea is doing very little to distract from it. Specifically, and it may just be in my head, I am sure I can taste the tequila. I don't like tequila.
Tip-in is tequila over tea leaves mixed with lemons and limes. I don't know where the other alcohol has gone, other than lending weight to the tequila, but this isn't really the taste I'm looking for. The middle makes me think that this was not intended to be quaffed properly. It is a confused mess on top of heavy alcohol and little else. The finish is a relatively nasty bite of more alcohol with tequila smothering the lemons and limes in their sleep.
