Clearly Mike has hit my sweet spot. I really enjoyed the lemonade, and I even enjoyed the limeade. This is basically just a flavored version of the lemonade, so I am definitely expecting to like this. After all, I like black cherry drinks, and I like lemonade. Mike knows how to put together a beverage, and they can even make it so the carbonation doesn't significantly detract from the enjoyment. Let's dive in.
I want to call this drink purple. It's probably more of a deep red that ventures into the purple zones, but it looks kind of purple to me. I'm not sure why black cherry should be purple, but this is where we find ourselves. I poured this one pretty roughly, and I was gratified to see something of a head developing on top of the beer before fizzling out so quickly that I couldn't get to the camera in time. The aroma is sweet black cherries. They could not be more spot-on with this aroma if they tried hard. I suspect that they did try hard, and it was worth it.
First sip is a sweet and relatively enjoyable beverage. The lemon isn't really coming out very well, and I kind of wish it would. Instead, it is overwhelmed by the black cherry, but that taste is not bad. I think the problem that I'm having with it right now is that the expectation when going into a flavored lemonade is that you're going to have lemonade as a base that you can rely on. In this case, it is all black cherries the whole way down. It's sweet, it's somewhat tart, and it's not bad, but it's also not lemonade.
Tip-in is sweet cherries and mild carbonation hum. A buzz of carbonation hits the roof of the mouth as cherries highlight the ever elusive lemons that I can now barely discern under the cacophony above it. The finish brings a little bit of tart from the lemons, but the sweet cherries are going to rule until the end of time.
