The first thing I did was check to see if I had already done a review of this beer. The fact that this has a picture of space on it may be think that this might have galaxy hops, and I have run into a few beers that were space themed as a result of using those kinds of hops. As it turns out, I have not yet had this beer. That's just fine by me, as Panther Creek has been spectacular from the word go, and I'm going to savor every little bit of this beer that I can have.
As I cracked open the beer, the first thing I noticed was that it seems like it had no carbonation. There wasn't even that usual pfft noise that comes when you open, and pouring it into the class didn't produce all that much head until I really tried. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Nevertheless, there was quite a bit of cascading once it was actually poured in roughly. There will be lacing left behind by the few bubbles that it was able to produce, and they are of mixed size as they lay flat against the top of the beer. The aroma is tropical and citrus, but they lay under a skin of fruit rind that smells like it still has the peach fuzz attached to it. I don't really know what to make of it.
First sip isn't great. It has bitterness and unexpected pine, and the bitterness seems to devolve into a dryness that is unjustified by the level of hops that I'm getting. I know that this supposed to have tropical and citrus flavors to the hops, but that's not what I'm tasting. If anything, it's possible it has a little bit of a funk and a little bit of a dank to it. The can itself doesn't say when it was brewed, but I assume I got this relatively fresh. I'm not sure what's causing the issues. Maybe it would just taste better with a full gulp.
Tip-in is moderate (and rising) carbonation with fruit husks and pine. The middle hikes the carbonation to the roof of the mouth while I catch a glimpse of the pineapple and passionfruit between the pine branches and a misty funk. The finish is a crash of bitterness and dryness as pineapple husks and pine vie for supremacy through the trail off.
Bottom Line: They can't all be winners.
