This isn't my first Moscow Mule, but it is my second. I have not had one since I reviewed the gift I got from Man Crate (which I had to supply my own vodka for). I remember it being fine, but I'm not sure I know why this has really gotten going as a beverage. I guess it's better than most seltzers, but I don't know that the copper cup and all of the baggage that it comes with is worth the effort.
The sucker looks just like a pretty good limeade or lemonade. The aroma is lime seltzer - the ginger isn't really doing much. Other than those two things - there isn't much to say. This lacks the beauty and majesty of a beer, and even the floating bits of stuff look lifeless. This is more of a picture of a beverage than an actual beverage.
First sip is more of the ginger showing through than I remember, and the lime adds a nice citrus kick to it. The alcohol isn't hidden, and I don't think it was intended to be. The sweetness isn't something I remember, but it is nearly as sweet as a soda. It reminds me of why I liked it before - and I like it now.
Subsequent sips get even better. The sweet citrus with the spice of ginger make a calm and reasonable hard soda. I don't think this will do well as warmth gets into it, but I've been wrong about that before. Either way, I will attempt to drain the beverage before it starts getting bad.
Bottom Line: One of the better hard sodas.
