This is the final beer in the multipack, and, as usual, I have saved what I anticipate to be the worst for last. I like mango that is derived from hops just fine in my beer, but I wouldn't say that I go out of my way to actually eat the fruit. The same can't be said for things like oranges, grapefruit, apples, watermelon, or plenty of other things that wind up as ingredients in various kinds of beer. I don't think I have anything directly against mango, but it's just not the kind of thing I reach for in the fruit aisle. Well, let's see if it makes a good beer. The very pale yellow beer reminds me of almost any lager that I have had of late. The head comes out pretty well, but it boils down to absolutely nothing on top of the beer. The ring around the sides and points of nucleation tell me that this is carbonated. The aroma isn't going to surprise anyone. It smells like beer with mango added. A lot of mango added. Like, too much mango added. That said, mango can be refreshing, so I'm not going to count this out yet.
First sip doesn't immediately put this in the win category. Instead, there is an acidity that peaks about halfway through the sip and then drags on well past the time that the mango has disappeared. I really thought it was going to be fruitful and quenching whenever I first started it, but it took a bend in the middle. I hadn't been worried about acidity, as I was more concerned that this is going to be watery like some of it siblings. I don't know what else to say other than this is the fourth beer in this pack, and there aren't any more. I hope Sam Adams doesn't bother trying to come up with more.
Tip-in is mango over moderate carbonation sizzle that starts to increase immediately. The middle turns watery with the mango being little more than a mist in a relatively flavorless beer while carbonation dances around the roof of the mouth. The finish is a reintroduction of mango with slight acidity before the acid goes away entirely to just leave mango for the trail off.
Bottom Line: Epic finish.
