There is nothing particularly wrong with the Crown Royal whisky and cola. In fact, it was one of the better mixes of alcohol and a soda that I've had. I kind of find it strange that they call this whisky lemonade and not just hard lemonade like all of their competitors do, but I suppose they're trying to lean into the fact that this is supposed to be some good whisky. As someone who doesn't have whisky very often, I'm pretty sure good versus bad whisky is going to be lost on me. Nevertheless, I know what good lemonade is. Let's see if this is good whisky and lemonade.
I expected it to be yellow, but this is actually white. It's not as dense as the lemonade that I'm used to, and it has no pulp. I'm fine without the pulp, and the color doesn't put me off too much, although it is watery looking. It could probably have had more lemons, based entirely on what it looks like. The aroma indicates that it should definitely have more lemons. I can smell lemons, but I can smell them just barely over the whisky. Whisky is running the show here, and it doesn't care what you think about it. Once again, I'm not a big whisky drinker, and I would prefer that this have a bit more lemonade than it does whisky. Possibly more than a bit. With an ABV of 7%, I really expect this to be very watered-down in terms of whisky flavor.First sip is quite whisky forward. Is it a good whisky? I can't tell. I can tell that the lemonade doesn't seem to be doing very much other than watering down the whisky itself. Mind you, it's not doing a particularly good job of that watering down. Instead, it's basically lemon flavored whisky. Is that what it's supposed to be? If so, I'm not sure how many people are in the market for it. This would especially be true for the relatively low ABV compared to other flavored whiskeys.
Subsequent sips reinforce my belief that this has too much of a whisky flavor and not enough lemonade to justify calling it a whisky lemonade. Maybe if you a call that a lemonade flavored whisky, you do been a little closer. Still, there's no getting away from that low ABV for a whisky.
Bottom Line: A flavored whisky is probably better.
