I don't want to belabor the point, but this is another beer where they didn't bother me to tell me what the ABV was. I had to go to their website to find out that it is 5%. 5% isn't bad for a light lager. It's actually pretty good, and it's more than I was expecting. Nevertheless, they made me go to chase it down. As a result, I've complained about it during this paragraph rather than discuss the strange name of Church Parking Lot. I wonder how many times these guys got drunk in a church parking lot.
The slightly hazy pale yellow beer produces an adequate amount of head, but I'm used to this glass producing all a lot more. A thin dusting is left on top that only covers about a quarter of the beer, and there isn't even a strong ring around the sides. The aroma is grainy malt and a sweet corn. As far as presentation goes, this isn't bad at all for a light beer. In fact, it makes me question whether or not this is a light beer. It says that it's a local light lager, and I'm not sure that adequately conveys whether or not this is actually a light beer or just an eminently quaffable one. Their website doesn't say, so I'm not going to count this as a light beer.First sip is not bad. It has sweet corn at the beginning, and then it has a heavy grain carrying everything forward. It's relatively crisp and clean tasting, but there's something that lingers for the trail off that is more corn husks and a bitterness that is somewhat off-putting. I'm not sure what kind of hops have been used in this, but they don't seem to be engendering much flavor while they are producing more bitterness than the beer should have. Maybe a full swig will shake this out.
Tip-in is corn and grains, but the strange husk that was in the sip's trail-off is here right at the outset. The middle is smooth and quite enjoyable with just the corn and grains enjoying themselves through the center of the mouth while minimal carbonation dazzles across the top. The finish has a slightly skunk taste that introduces the corn husks that never quite leave, but they're not as pronounced for the trail off.
Bottom Line: It's a decent local beer.
