Okay, so this isn't an Irish cream - it's a highland cream. It says "Scotland" before the company name. I didn't know if this was "Scotland" distillery or if Magnum was. To be honest, I still don't know for sure. One thing I know, however, is that this is a mix of cream and scotch. Now, I've had very little scotch in my day, and I don't actually know how it compares directly to bourbon, but I remember that cream that was based on bourbon like it was yesterday.
At first, I thought this was going to be watery. I don't know what about the top of the milk-can-style container made me think that, but it turns out that it's just as creamy as all the other creams. It is a chocolate milk brown, and I've seen that before, so at least we are mixing to a standard. The aroma is cream and alcohol, just like most of the others. So, maybe I'll like this just the same as them.First sip is delicious! It has the creamy smoothness with an unexpectedly chocolatey twist and the alcohol is buried deep within its folds. I don't know that I taste a whole heap of alcohol in here, despite the 17% ABV. Instead, this is smooth, sweet, and pretty care free. What seems odd is that I don't taste anything that would lead me to believe that this is a single malt scotch, which I'm told are great. That flavor cannot permeate the cream well enough to be distinctive.
Subsequent sips bring out the alcohol a bit more, and the depth of the cream is really highlighted. This actually reminds me a lot of the bourbon cream that I had, and I liked that one, too. These can't replace beer as a mainstay, but they are a very nice interlude or a nightcap.
Bottom Line: Scotland knows how to do it.
