This better go well. The Creature Comforts multi-pack needs to get strong. The great thing about a multi-pack is that I get a bunch of different beverages to try, and I don't have to drink a lot of each one. I mean, when I get a six pack of something that I try, review, and don't like... I'm stuck with five bad beers. The problem here is that I may wind up with a case of beer that is all kind of... blah.
The substantially hazy pale ale blooms with a very nice head, but the lacing it leaves behind is extremely minimal. The remaining thin pillow on top is uneven and almost breaks apart completely in spots. The aroma is quite pungent and tropical - which is what I may now think is one of my favorite scents in a beer. So far, so good.First sip is pretty strange. This tastes more like a DIPA than a pale ale. It has a thicker malt and heavier bitterness than I would normally find in a pale ale, but the ABV certainly does not reflect a double. It's hard to say if this is good, but it's less hard to say that it's bad, and that may be entirely stemming from the idea I had of the beer before I started to drink it. A gulp with show us the truth.
Tip-in is unsettled carbonation that mixes with bitterness for an initial sting alongside tropical fruit rinds. The middle starts to mellow before a noticeable crescendo of fruit rinds and seeds join with a resurging bitterness and carbonation. The finish is a bit of a fruit-strewn bitter mess.
Bottom Line: Not comforting.
