The last shandy didn't go very well. I would like to say was possibly just me, but I don't think it was. I think it just wasn't a good beverage. This is from the same people, but it's also the same people who came up with an absolutely fantastic barrel aged stout that I have already recommended to several friends. Will adding strawberry to the shandy help matters? Well, it probably can't hurt. These both came in a variety pack, so I have at least one more style to go, and I can't remember what fruit they added. Maybe a watermelon? I'll find out when I try it tomorrow. In the meantime, I like strawberries, so this may work out just fine.
I expected some pink to be in my strawberry lemonade. Instead, this looks like it may as well be the same beverage I had yesterday with the dirty dishwater look and no discernible head. The aroma is not significantly different than its stablemate, and that does not bode particularly well. Just smelling it reminded me of how I didn't like the last one. Perhaps my optimism during the first paragraph was misplaced.First sip isn't as bad as the previous shandy, but it's still not good. The strawberry adds a little bit of sweetness, but sweetness wasn't what this beverage was missing. It had too many things that were fighting each other, and now we've added something else. I don't know how else to describe what I'm tasting, but it's just not good. I don't like it. Maybe a full swig will fix it, but I do not have as much hope as I had in the first paragraph.
Tip-in is strawberries and lemons in a sweet basket with grains underneath and carbonation sizzling the middle of the tongue. The middle blossoms into a somewhat unbalanced mix of tart, sweet, and grains. The finish is the same jumbled mess that the other drink was, and I have absolutely no hope for the remaining shandy.
Bottom Line: Maybe Goose Island should give up shandies.
