The implication of naming a beer Morning Haze is that you might want to drink it in the morning. Maybe instead, it means that you will be in a haze when the morning comes, as the 8.8% ABV is likely to pack more of a punch than most people expect. Upon reading the can, I find that their description is that this beer should be as pleasing as your favorite sunrise. It also has emblazoned across the top "hazy like Sunday morning," and that seems to imply something, but I'm not sure what it is. I'm just gonna drink the beer.
The golden beer is somewhat hazy. It's not as hazy as the Dancing Gnome beers I've had the last few days, but it qualifies as hazy. Lots of minuscule bubbles completely cover the top of the beer and leave some lacing around the sides that is propped up by the very strong ring clinging to the glass. The can says that this has a vast amount of juicy hops, but the aroma indicates that the juice is there without being so vast. Instead, it's a pleasingly vibrant yet restrained amount of juice. It almost smells sweet - like it has lactose sugars or agave or something.First sip is striking and incongruent with the description on the can. This is why I shouldn't be reading the cans before I start doing the reviews. The can describes something that isn't there in the beverage, and it is the difference between them that concerns me. Bitterness and fruit peels seem to be in great supply while the expected and advertised juiciness is reluctant to assert itself. As a result, I am probably not enjoying this is much as I would have if I hadn't bothered to read the can. Advertising something that isn't there is worse than not advertising at all.
Tip-in is sweet fruit juice of tangerine, orange, and grapefruit with a moderate carbonation buzzing round it. The middle floats by with an increase in carbonation across the roof of the mouth while the soft juices enjoy themselves in the center just like the can suggested they should. The finish is a bit of a mess with rinds taking over from the juice and bitterness descending nearly unrestrained to take over the mouth before a dusty trail off.
Bottom Line: Not as good as a sunrise.
