Little Harpeth has been kinds of all over the place. I don't really know what I'm in for with some of their beers, but I know that they're gonna put forth some effort. Since I'm still in the Oktoberfest season while I am writing this review, I am definitely in the mood to gobble down one of these delicious lagers. Come on, guys, do Nashville proud.
The caramel colored beer produces a moderate head that goes completely away after a little bit of time. The aroma is strangely alcoholic and reminds me a bit of a wine in its heaviness. This is unusual for a beer with a mere 6% ABV. Mind you, I think that might be a little high for an Oktoberfest. I've been drinking a lot of IPAs lately, and my sense for what the proper amount of alcohol for a particular beverage might be skewed significantly.First sip is quite tasty. It has the caramel malt which is doing a fine job of holding everything up while light spices, banana, and even a little clove bring complexity to the beer. It hangs on for quite some time, and I have found that this seems to be normal for this kind of beverage. I'm cool with that, especially when I'm sipping. It lets me enjoy the beer a lot more. However, sipping isn't the only way to enjoy a beverage like this.
Tip-in is caramel malt with very light carbonation and quite a bit of sweetness. The middle is mostly more of the same - the caramel malt is taking up most of the space, but bananas and clove add just a little bit in the meaty center. The finish is where the spices come on a little more as the malt starts to let go and all of it hangs on quite some time after the trail off.
Bottom Line: That is one tasty beverage.
