Founders really hit me hard when they came out with the KBS, and I loved that beer immensely. From then on, I was looking for anything Founders had to try it out. Then, they made that KBS that was reformulated to be available years round. It ... very much upset me. It upset me to the core of my being, and it was clear that I was taking beer a little too seriously. Either way, I was disappointed.
The delightfully gold beer sprouts an adequate head that fizzles down to a cyclonic ring of tight bubbles with a surrounding, calmer storm of supporting head. The aroma is unwavering from the wheat roots of the beer with thick grains and light citrus. Does it smell enticing? Yup.First sip is impressive. It is full bodied and sweet with heavy grains and light citrus. I'm not saying I expect a session ale to have the flavor profile of a low-cal beer, but I expect it to have to sacrifice in some significant way. Assuming the full swig follows the sip, this sacrifices little.
Tip-in is light carbonation burn that slowly increases around the heavy, sweet grains. The middle lets the carbonation just settle into a rhythm as the citrus comes up to compliment the grains in a solid mix of grace and sweetness. The finish is a slow pull away of flavors until a dusting of sweet grains is all that's left in its wake.
Bottom Line: Very, very good.
