I have this tagged as a lager. Is it a lager? It doesn't say so on the can. I suppose one should assume that a light beer is a form of lager unless the beer explicitly states that it's some kind of light ale. Fortunately, there are enough other resources on the Internet to clear this one up pretty quickly. Should I even be drinking this? Well, I have a whole series of low calorie beers, and this may be among the most popular. Maybe there's something to that.
I was genuinely afraid that I wouldn't get the picture done before the head disappeared entirely. It turns out, that was a completely valid fear, as I have just completed the first paragraph of this review, and the head is entirely gone. What's left are many, many points of nucleation at the depths of the beverage that are effectively the difference between the color of this very light, pale yellow beer and a weak version of a cider. The aroma is nearly nothing. I think I can make out some grains, but I wouldn't swear to them. I just can't smell anything at all in here.First sip is not tasteless. Grains and sweet, very light citrus do give this beverage a taste. And it's not a bad taste. If I came in from yardwork, and I was thirsty as heck, I wouldn't turn this beer down. It's almost like beer flavored water, and I could see the appeal of a completely unchallenging beverage. While I would typically turn to a farmhouse ale or the like, someone who enjoyed lagers more could claim that this is the equivalent. Indeed, this may be better, as it has fewer calories. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. Right now I'm looking for a swig.
Tip-in is moderate carbonation sizzle with sweet grains and light lemons. The middle sends carbonation to burn at the top of the mouth while undistinguished water occupies the bulk of everything else with grains and lemons becoming very distant through the center. The finish turns slightly dry as the sweetness from the grains comes back in the lemon is barely noticeable before a rather dull trail off.
Bottom Line: It does what it's supposed to do.
