The last beer I had from Texas said that it was Texas proud. This one seems virtually bedazzled with Texas pride. The design of this label is just about the most Texas thing you can get this side of a giant Texas star flag with Chuck Noris kicking a communist in the head while oil spurts forth from an oil rig in the background. So, I find that this says on the can that it was made in Texas. That seems to grok. The fact that this is a cosmic beer continues my sneaky suspicion that there is some new cosmic hop that people are using in their beers that I haven't heard anything about. Mind you, I've done no research.
The beer pours a darker amber than most IPAs can generate. It reminds me of the last Texas beer that I had that seem to be pushing into DIPA with its aroma, color, and even its ABV. This produces a nice head, but it leaves no lacing in its wake. The aroma is light and citrusy, and it spells really good. I've worked pretty hard today (for someone who works at a desk) and I deserve to get a good beer. So let's hope this is one.First sip is, as it says on the can, bold. I expected more citrus than I've gotten, and I now find myself drinking a curious mix of citrus, flowers, and pine. As does sometimes happen with pine, there is a musty sensation that comes on immediately after the sip, and I'm not sure I like that. The overall sip isn't terrible, but I think this is suffering from the common issue of being too complex for sip. Well, that's what my process is supposed to get rid of. That's why I gulp.
Tip-in is mild carbonation tingle with flowers, pine, and fruit rind finding themselves to be quite mellow in the foreground. The middle moves the carbonation to the top of the mouth, but it never becomes a storm as the fruits unveil themselves along the tongue and the flowers and pine simply become background music for what is otherwise an excellent solo. The finish is a slow rise of bitterness as the musty sensations never fully realize and allow the trail off to echo pine and flowers.
Bottom Line: Another tasty beverage from Texas.
