I have not specifically targeted blonde ales recently, but it seems like that was what was in stock, so I went for them. This one says "infinitely drinkable" on the can, so I'm expecting a very smooth kind of session ale that would otherwise be referred to as "crushable." These New York guys don't really seem laid back enough to use that term, so I guess they went with something more fitting to their temperament.
The clear yellow beer is a deeper yellow than most of the blondes I've encountered, and it's definitely too dark for a pilsner. The short lived bubbles are very white, and they disappear leaving a dollop of small bubbles off center on top of the beer and a ghost of a partial ring on the sides. The aroma is lemongrass with an added air of sweetness from the malt.First sip is straw and grains in the malt with lemon sprinkled over top and a glaze of semi-sweet biscuits giving some nice additions to the flavor. It's full bodied, but it's not overwhelming. I think they may have hit their "infinitely drinkable" pretty solidly. The sipping could last all night, but it's not likely to, is it?
Tip-in is lemongrass with a slight pomegranate addition and carbonation swelling. The middle turns extra grainy as the carbonation heightens that sensation and the lemon and coriander fade into the background. The finish is a sudden dryness that starts at the back of the mouth and works its way forward while the grains drain away leaving lemongrass alone for the trail off.
Bottom Line: Fine. Better sipped.
