I'm starting to think that Scofflaw only has the "Basement" line of beers. Is it a line? I thought it might be like the Voodoo Ranger line that New Belgium developed, but I'm rethinking myself. Maybe this is just their quirk that they put basement in the name of all of their beers. If so, I guess it's fair enough, but if your branding on your brewery is good enough, you shouldn't really need additional branding, right?
The beer is a pretty picture. It's like what you might imagine a hazy IPA should look like when you picture it in your mind's eye. The deep orange beer has an absolutely perfect amount of mixed bubbles floating on top. These white bubbles seem even more stark white because of the vaguely iridescent nature of the orange beer. The aroma is resin, some flowers, and what seems like a honey malt.First sip is heavy with resin and flowers while the malt struggles to find any kind of footing underneath it all. I'm not sure the malt is doing the job it's supposed to do here, as the hops have laid into the taste buds with an onslaught, and the bitterness they leave in their wake is virtually unmuted.
Tip-in is honey and biscuits with flowers alighted on top and carbonation barely a glimmer. The middle is thick with resin that is highlighted by flowers and pine with the malt once again notable for its absence. The finish is bitter and resin.
Bottom Line: Cancer could have a more ferocious enemy.
