The fine folks at Wiseacre sat back in their chairs here in Tennessee and one guy turned to his co-worker and said, "It's sunny today. I noticed that most wheat beers kinda look like the sun... but, y'all know, moreso." And thus, Sun Bump was born. I don't know for sure that it was the origin, but that's my guess. The beer is as clear as a bell and yellow as the Steelers' yellow jerseys. There isn’t much head erupting, and there won’t be any lacing. The slight wisps of bubbles left atop the beer can’t seem to form any kind of cohesion amongst themselves. The aroma is very dim Belgian yeast with orange peel and grains.First sip is much greater coriander than I expected (since I expected none of it). The orange peel is in there to lighten it up, and the yeast is trying, but it is very shockingly not able to overcome the very intrusive coriander (and that yeast is pretty formidable). Even the grains can’t stand up to this.
Tip-in is coriander and orange peels with sizzling carbonation, light grains, and a mist of yeast. The middle rolls with a much greater sizzle that brings the grains out more, but the coriander is still just too much. The finish is a bitter turn with the echo of yeast above the coriander peels.
Bottom Line: It’s… uh… not great.
